DID THE FEDS ORDER AMAZON.COM TO STOP SELLING THE CONFEDERATE BATTLE FLAG?

According to certain accounts of the communications of some customers with Amazon.com employees, two of which are saved in screenshots seen below, the recent decision of the company to stop selling the Confederate battle flag was apparently made under coercion from the federal government.

Some sites are now keen to attempt to "debunk" this story, but they have yet been able to explain away the message sent by an Amazon staffer named "Daniel V," who on at least two separate occasions told customers that "by federal law retailers have been told to remove the Confederate flag from sale (emphasis mine)."

Amazon.com has yet to address this allegation in any press statement, adding to the confusion.
