MONTHLY ROUND-UP: JULY 2016 – A NEW PLATEAU NOT A PEAK

Both May and June were very strong months for our site, with over 200,000 hits each and one or two articles “going viral” (i.e. scoring hits well outside our usual range). In July, however, none of our articles went viral. I also expected our readership to be hit by the Democratic and Republican conventions, because more US-oriented Alt-Right sites were offering excellent and extensive coverage of these events.

For these reasons I expected to see a drop back below the 200,000 hit mark, but surprisingly this did not happen. Total hits for July reached 219,342, only a slight decrease on last month’s record figure.

Conservatives espouse traditional (or, more accurately, eternal) values including the importance of hard work and dedication. Few ask themselves, however, if this extends to jobs. It should not, mainly because (1) jobs are not actually work in most cases and (2) jobs are the antithesis of what the value of hard work is designed to foster.

In modern Europe and the Americas, everyone — male and female — over the age of majority must attend a job. This means showing up every day from eight to five and being in the office, doing office tasks. Every person gets a cubicle or an office and a computer, maybe a title. They do this until they are sixty-five, then wonder what it meant.

An appropriate term for the Leftist is "The Rational Idiot." Leftists like to make a show of being data-driven beings who use reason to come to their opinions, but anyone who has ever encountered actual Leftists will know how absurd this sounds. For those with Leftist views, the pretence of reason can only be maintained by extreme cherry-picking of data, combined with the equally extreme blanking-out of any inconvenient data.

Like a cockroach in a dirty kitchen, the Leftist scuttles around in the dark, fearful of the moment when the lights are switched on. This is why Leftists invented the concept of "hate facts," an attempt to smear the light switch with moral faeces so that they could continue their benighted existence. A "hate fact," by the way, is simply a normal fact that breaks a Leftist narrative constructed on the basis of the minimum input of data, and as such the term has been embraced and counter-weaponized by the Alt-Right.

I am going to preface this essay by admitting that I haven’t gambled in a very long time, and for some reason when I initially thought of the “doubling down” metaphor I only had a nebulous idea that it applied to card games. So, after typing this sentence I googled it and found that it relates, exclusively, to blackjack. I assume I’m in the minority of people who were unaware of this, however, there are lots of expressions we are carelessly using without any real knowledge of their etymological and, in the case of “double down,” metonymic origins.

The world has reached "Peak Democracy," with the result that we can expect to see it start collapsing any day soon. Those places where it is most likely to collapse include South America and parts of Asia, in both of which it has not really been a natural fit. Also, in certain countries, like Russia and Japan, it will continue simply because it doesn’t rock the boat too much or throw up important divisions, but elsewhere, where it does, it will face something of a reckoning.

Turkey is a good example of the problems with democracy, and why this should have been ideal territory for a partial collapse of democracy. Like Venezuela with Chavas, Brazil with Lula, or Thaksin Shinawatra in Thailand, democracy in Turkey – forced on it by its proximity and economic dependence on Europe – has basically empowered the underclass, but rather than this expressing itself in more gibsmedats it has been channelled along the lines of the creeping Islamization of Turkish society, which reveals a little of Islam's utility as a control mechanism.

THE UNTOLD VICTORS: THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR AS HISTORY NOT PROPAGANDA

The Spanish Civil War (1936-39) is one of the wars in which the losers are documented much more than the winners. The ideological spectrum of the socialist Republican side of the war has been explored inside out, but their opponents, General Francisco Franco's Nationalists are portrayed simplistically as reactionaries, who merely represented the interests of the Church and powerful landowners, and wanted to return Spanish society to feudal times.

This is particularly true of history writing that centres on the foreign volunteers of the Republican International Brigades, which involved 32,000 to 35,000 left-wing and non-political defenders of democracy from different countries. In his 2003 book, Suomalaiset Espanjan sisällissodassa (Finns in the Spanish Civil War), Jyrki Juusela closely follows the steps of the Finnish members of the International Brigades, but only a few dozen pages are dedicated to Finnish fighters on the nationalist side. In leftist mythology the Spanish war was an international crusade on behalf of democracy and egalitarianism, which drew militant idealists from all over the world, including Asia and Latin America.

But, actually, the proportion of foreigners in Franco's nationalist forces was even greater. Along with 15,000 German and 80,000 Italian professional soldiers who were sent to help Franco, almost 90,000 foreign volunteers fought on the nationalist side.

THE GREATEST WAR BETWEEN AFRICAN STATES

War, contrary to expectations, is a semi-civilized business, requiring, as it does, qualities of organization, discipline, and application that only civilized states are capable of. While most Sub-Saharan countries are capable of low-grade guerrilla anarchy, they are usually not able to carry out proper prolonged conflicts. For this reason, most African conflicts have little interest for the student of war or the military historian.

But African states do occasionally fight wars beyond the level of simple savagery. The most substantial war between two Sub-Saharan African states was probably that which started 39 years ago today between Somalia and Ethiopia, usually referred to as the Ogaden War.

Australia just had a parliamentary election –  both the Lower and Upper Houses – which means now is a good time to update the readers of Alternative Right on the political situation in the former colonies down under.

The result was a typical deadlock between the mainstream right-wing party – the Liberals (think Tories or Republicans) – and the mainstream left-wing Labor (think UK Labour or Democrats). We've been here before in 2010, when Julia Gillard scored a narrow victory for Labor.

In the week leading up to the election, the polls had been neck and neck as to whether the conservative Liberal Malcolm "Teflon Don" Turnbull – a cuckservative in the true sense of that name – would hold on to his recently acquired power or the equally cucked Labor dullard Bill Shorten pull off a coup and oust him. You see, Turnbull did a Brutus on his Julius Caesar about a year ago, on our own old school, moderate, right-wing, former Liberal leader Tony Abbott. I rather liked Abbott, I must confess – he of the very successful “Stop the Boats” campaign that literally did stop our refugee boat problem in Australia overnight.

Ryan Gosling plays Stephen Meyers, Morris’s junior campaign manager. Early in the film, during an informal get together with his fellow campaigners and members of the press Meyers admits his personal conviction in support of Morris’s policies, and more significantly, in Morris himself as a genuine avatar of these views.

For 41 years Britain, the world's most famous Island nation, went through a period of national LARPing. After watching ABBA triumph in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975, it tried its best to become a landlocked or semi-landlocked Continental nation that could fit in with its neighbours. The Brexit vote has hopefully reversed this insanity, even if it can't quite bring back the silver sixpence and the Fahrenheit scale. But who knows? Once you start getting back in touch with your true self, anything is possible.

Typically, when the name “fascism” is invoked upon a political group, something close to the results of a black spell are produced: the public is induced to see violence and defeat in the targeted group, and within the group itself, some are induced to disown their comrades in acts of “self-purification” while others are mesmerised into embracing the name as a suicide embraces the noose.

It has been theoretically demonstrated and seen in general practice that a monetary system of 100% metallic money devoid of central banking checks monetary inflation, prevents a general rise in the price level, and eliminates the dreaded business cycle, while making all sorts of monetary mischief nearly impossible. A gold standard is not only economically superior to any paper money scheme, but is morally just, which is why it is hated by the politically well-connected, academics, politicians, and the rest of the Establishment.

Following Mitt Romney's demographically determined loss to Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election, one astute observer had this to say about the Stupid Party and race:

"Republicans didn’t have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians... The Democrats didn’t have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren’t mean-spirited about it... They didn’t know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind."

Who could this erudite individual possibly be? It could very well be some cuckservative who labors under the delusion that Latinos are "natural conservatives" who only vote Democrat because they're repelled by the GOP's (rather feeble) opposition to immigration. Or it could be some far left progressive disgusted with the mainstream Democratic Party and how they screw over people of color with a smile.
